Join us in the untamed waters of the Indian Ocean, off the Mozambique coast for the experience of a lifetime. Loved since the dawn of time for their intelligence, joy, passion & curiosity and honored for their tolerance, the dolphins of the planet have befriended man, on the azure blue shores of Ponta do Ouro in southern Mozambique.

There is something that stirs ones soul when in the company of dolphins. Be it what it may, there is no denying that dolphins have a positive effect on us land dwellers. Having entered the magical watery realm of the dolphin some 9 years ago, we have had the wondrous opportunity of meeting not only dolphin, but human alike.

Highlights:

Kosi Bay

Ponta do Ouro

Swimming with the dolphins

Snorkelling

Tips and Hints:

The Dolphin Team prides itself in professionalism, always putting the dolphins first. After many years experience with the Inshore Bottlenose dolphins (T. Adunctus) in the area, we find ourselves the leaders of swim with programs in Africa.

Our swims are very strict with all full tour participants receiving a strict code of conduct, educating them on how to interact with dolphins in the wild. Educational work i.e.: slide show and snorkelling course is done from the Dolphin Centre which houses a number of displays about our dolphins and marine environment. All participants follow a no touch rule and between 4-6 people accompanied by a dolphin swim facilitator are allowed into the water at any given time. The kinds of interactions we have are solely dependent on the dolphin’s behaviour which ranges from observing their natural daily routines to having a dolphin encounter lasting anything up to 40 minutes. Remember we are visitors in the dolphin’s world and this has to be respected. Early morning dolphin swims welcome in clarity and purpose before embarking on other journeys of discovery.

Full tour participants will receive a free-diving (snorkelling) course on the day of arrival. This is to make sure you know how to snorkel and feel confident in the water. Certain free-diving techniques will be shown to you as well as familiarizing yourself with your free-diving equipment (mask, snorkel and fins). Prior to any dolphin swim, participants are required to attend a full briefing at the Dolphin Centre. This is done through an interactive slide presentation and includes our Dolphin Encountour Code of Conduct, some information on the dolphins in the area, rules and regulations one needs to follow while swimming with wild dolphins and ways of initiating play. We also explore that ‘Dolphin Connection”. All our boats launch from the protection of Ponta bay and go to sea with a Dolphin Skipper who has experience in reading dolphin behaviour and identifying individual dolphins as well as a Dolphin Swim Facilitator. It is the swim facilitators’ job firstly to lead the swim through knowing how to interact with and hold the dolphin’s attention and secondly assist anyone who needs assistance in the water. On water time is dependent on the Dolphins location and behaviour but usually we are not longer than 90 minutes at sea.

Please note the type of swim we have is totally dependent on the dolphins’ behaviour, after all they are wild animals and in saying that there are no guarantees. We do support a 20 min interaction time set by international standards. Full tour participants have preference to early morning launches, when normally the sea conditions are at their best and the dolphins at their most sociable. The rest of the day is for you to do what you wish. There are a number of restaurants in town for lunches and in season the nightlife ROCKS!

Dolphin clients are accommodated at the Dolphin Beach Camp which is situated within the main campsite in Ponta do Ouro. This magical and quaint beach camp is right on the beach. It is here that one will drift off into peaceful slumber with dolphin experiences guiding you into dream-time and the hum of the ocean on your doorstep. Constructed out of local materials and wood the beach camp offers a space that is tranquil and peaceful. Wind chimes and hammocks adorn this little island style paradise that has a splash of trendy hip-ness. Upmarket ablution facilities are within the Dolphin Beach Camp and have hot water showers. The Dolphin Beach Camp houses two types of accommodation, reeded casitas and more up-market two sleeper wooden chalets (plug points, mossie net and fan included in wooden).

All meals packages are set & served down at the Dolphin Cafe adjoining the Dolphin Centre and there is a full cash bar available. We do cater for vegetarians on request. Please specify on booking form.
